College Reunion

IMG_2477

As everyone knows, the college years are some of the best years of your life. It is in college that you meet people with whom you form life-long friendships.  Once college is over everyone starts to think about what they are going to do after graduation...some go back to school to pursue a graduate degree, some get married and look for the perfect career, while others just don’t know that to do.  But for everyone, there comes a point where you must leave the comfort of college and start the next chapter.

For Justin and I, the starting the next chapter meant moving Marietta, Georgia, leaving most of our college friends back in Hattiesburg (minus a couple that had already moved off to various places).  Even though it felt like we were so far away from our friends, we were only a maximum of about six hours away from most of those in our circle of friends, so we still had the opportunity to make a weekend trip back to Hattiesburg or to Birmingham.  After a few years in Georgia we moved back to Mississippi - still only around 3 hours from the Grant's and the Johnson's (though in different directions), and a quick trip down 49 from the McArthur's.  Well, about a year after our move back to Mississippi, McArthur's packed up and moved to New York state, and just a few months after that the Grant's packed up and moved to Washington, D.C.

And as fun as it may have been, a quick weekend trip to New York or Washington were pretty much out of the question.
As it turns out, just a few weeks ago the Grant's were in town visiting families, as were the McArthur's.  When we found out that everyone would be in the within about two hours of each other around the same time, we made plans to all get together.  The Garcia's, Grant's (minus Matthew), Johnson's (from New Orleans), and the McArthur's all met together at Kelly’s parent's house for some long-overdue hang out time. There is nothing like getting together with friends who at times know you better than you know yourself.

We had a great time together and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Sip ‘N’ See

IMG_2415

This weekend I hosted a Sip 'n' See for my friends Kelly, Matthew and Addison with the help Krista, and Kelly's mom Laurie. If you are not familiar with a Sip 'n' See let me explain: A Sip 'n' See is kind of a post-facto baby shower where folks come over to "sip" some punch and "see" the new baby.

A few months after Kelly found out she was pregnant she and Matthew moved to DC, so there was no time to throw Kelly a baby shower. When Krista (Kelly's best friend from high school) and I found out that we would not be able to give Kelly a shower we were both really sad, but leave it to Krista to save the day. Krista suggested that we have a Sip 'n' See. I was not familiar with this so I went to the internet a did some research and it was settled: Krista and Sally where planning another party.

With the help of Kelly's mom we put together a wonderful Sip 'n' See for sweet Addison. Let me rephrase that: BECAUSE of Kelly's mom we where able to put together a wonderful Sip 'n' See. Before I say anything else I have to give Kelly's mom Laurie all the credit. She cooked all the wonderful food and got everything we needed to make the Sip 'n' See wonderful. Thanks Laurie!!!! Trying to plan any party when the three hostesses are living in three different cities in two different states was not as hard that I thought. Krista and I are familiar with this kind of party planning. We all added our on special touches to the shower and it all turned out perfect. We are so glad that we got to send time with Kelly and Matthew and meet sweet Addison.

Happy 4th of July!!!!

Every year since I can remember my mom has always made pancakes on the 4th of July and puts a flag on top and we sing "Happy Birthday America." We still do this every year.

This year for the 4th Justin and I went to Winona to my parent's house. We were joined by our dear sweet family friends the Fosters/Bells from Marietta, GA. On the way down they stopped in AL and racked up at a fireworks stand (pictures to follow). We all had a great time being together, eating lots of good food, swinging on an awesome rope swing my dad built, and swimming. I really don't have much to say about the weekend other than we had a blast. I will let the photos tell the story.

Just some of the fireworks that Frank and Jay brought with them.
